課程概述

Course Description
The course aims to investigate the discursive and the visual elements in Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. In this novel, complicated interplay between these elements structure the narrator’s perception of the world and his cognition of the events happening on the whaling ship. Linguistic and visual theories from Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan, together with other scholarly researches on the novel’s artistic accomplishment, will be read in order to facilitate a better understanding of the novel.
